Texas Folklife Announces Big Squeeze Winners

Texas Folklife has announced the 2020 Big Squeeze Youth Accordion Champions in each of the traditional Texas accordion music genres including conjunto, polka, Cajun and zydeco. Seguin resident Isaak Wolfshohl, 18, was named the statewide Polka Grand Champion. Wolfshohl was introduced to the Texas polka culture at a very young age, attending Wurstfest annually and he was 12 when he got his first accordion. Wolfshohl's teacher is Terry Cavanagh and he auditioned with traditional polka songs Bergvagabunden and Rosamunde.

BOERNE VILLAGE BAND PLANS CONCERTS

The Boerne Village Band, the original German heritage band from Boerne Texas, is celebrating its 160th anniversary and they have garnered private and public support to bring in special performers for the entire season. This year’s Summer Abendkonzerts scheduled for June and July will be very special and unique from any of the previous 40 seasons. The season will include not only the usual four Tuesday evening concerts (Abendkonzertes) but will offer two additional concerts – a Saturday Kickoff on June 6 to include a Grand March to launch the season and a Finale with representatives from their sister band in Runkel Germany and a large brass band on Sat., July 25.
