A special feature of the Texas Czech Heritage Cultural Center’s 25th Anniversary celebration on May 15th will be Gabriela Gerhart. Mrs. Gerhart grew up under the communist government while living in Czechoslovakia.
The Concordia Hall in Bellville is the site of the annual Fruehling Saengerfest or German Spring Singing Festival. This year’s festival is Sunday, April 24 at Concordia Hall located at 952 S. Tesch Street. The festival is a charity fundraiser for the Bellville Lions Club and the Bluebonnet Chapter of the Texas German Society. The admission is Free. A BBQ chicken and local sausage meal will be served along with homemade cakes. The meal will start at 11:00am and is the fundraising portion of the event. The donation for the meal is $15. Local
New Braunfels (one 's') recently rolled out the dance floor for one of its newest citizens at a fully packed Biergarten event at Krause’s Cafe. Alex Meixner was welcomed to this authentic German venue by the mayor of New Braunfels, Rusty Brockman, and the Immediate Past Chair Chamber of Commerce President, Nathan Manlove.
In response to last summer’s multiple-vortex tornado in the Czech Republic, the SPJST Foundation has awarded $40,000 to the town of Hrušky, one of the areas hardest hit by the storm. Hrušky Mayor Jana Filipovicova indicated that the funds would be used to help restore cultural life in the community by making repairs to the city facilities and play areas where public events such as the traditional Bartholomew Feast, Christmas, and other social gatherings take place.
