Shining with Polka Pleasure

SHINER HOBO BAND

Do you get pleasure from hearing a full brass and woodwind orchestra? Then the Shiner Hobo Band's new CD Hobo Style is for you. This recording has 23 songs that will give you an enormous amount of polka pleasure.

One of those songs is Bandleader Polka. I really liked how the band played their brass and woodwind horns in that wonderful Joe Patek style. Once the accordion and Czech vocals were added, the polka pleasure really began to shine like a neon sign.

One thing that stuck out to me on this recording was the fact that a tuba was used on Austin Waltz. The tuba gave the song an authentic German band sound. Just add in some sauerkraut and bratwurst and everyone will be good to go.

Sail Along Silvery Moon was another track I enjoyed. I liked how the twin saxophones were played in perfect rhythm on this song; it kind of reminded of that Vrazels' Polka Band sound.

The Czech vocals were sung in perfect harmony on Little Goose Polka. The vocals sounded sweeter than frosting and cake. I found it interesting how the band members sang Czech and English lyrics on My Angel Polka.

Any band that combines Czech and American roots will always be uniquely phenomenal to me. The band chose a very fitting song to finish out this recording. That song is none other than the Shiner Song Polka. It's always nice to see a band staying loyal and humble to their roots.

If you are looking for the perfect way to celebrate the new year or just want to hear some good, old-fashioned polka music, this CD is meant for you. It is available for purchase in the Polka On! store at polkabeat.com.
