Corey Mikula: The Man Behind The Drums

To most polka music lovers, Corey Mikula is known as the drummer for the Ennis Czech Boys. However, there is more to Corey than meets the eye. The town of Ennis is just a few miles past Italy and is home to the National Polka Festival. For Corey, it is simply his stomping grounds.

"Growing up there my friends and I would go fishing, play with fireworks and build clubhouses," Corey remarked. "We all lived on private property in the country so we could pretty much do what we wanted. A lot of of people in my family were farmers so there was never a shortage of hammers and nails".

St. John Catholic School closed in 2008, but Corey was fortunate enough to attend the sacred campus while it was still operating. "I graduated from there in 2007," Corey recalled. "While I was going there, my friends and I grew out of building clubhouses and started playing street hockey instead of the school sports."
