The popularity of using food as an excuse to have a party, along with its complementary alcoholic beverage, the sausage is probably the most popular food to receive attention. The sausage requires little in the way of cooking accoutrements, is easy to consume and also requires little or none at all silverware.
In response to last summer’s multiple-vortex tornado in the Czech Republic, the SPJST Foundation has awarded $40,000 to the town of Hrušky, one of the areas hardest hit by the storm. Hrušky Mayor Jana Filipovicova indicated that the funds would be used to help restore cultural life in the community by making repairs to the city facilities and play areas where public events such as the traditional Bartholomew Feast, Christmas, and other social gatherings take place.
New Braunfels (one 's') recently rolled out the dance floor for one of its newest citizens at a fully packed Biergarten event at Krause’s Cafe. Alex Meixner was welcomed to this authentic German venue by the mayor of New Braunfels, Rusty Brockman, and the Immediate Past Chair Chamber of Commerce President, Nathan Manlove.
Mary Lou Lawson passed away peacefully at her home in Houston. Mary Lou’s first husband, Wayne Hauck, passed away in 1977. Her love for polka kept her at the dances and at one dance, she was asked to dance by a gentleman named Harold Lawson who had been “forced” to attend the dance by friends. Harold was a widower. They married in 1981.
