HOUSTON — Julios Tupa, noted musician and personality in Ae polka world, has taken the first step to realizing his life-long dream of publishing a Polka-newspaper with this first edition of Hie Texas Polka News.
The first issue of the Texas Polka News back in 1987 featured more than a dozen ads from polka bands that were active in Texas and beyond at that time.
The Bavarian Village Band was bom in 1979 when Ed Kadlecek, his daughter Nancy, Rennie Guenther and his son Greg played for a Christmas party at Goerkes Country Tavern. The kids, at the time, were in EL CAMPO MELODY BOYS Middle School. The performance went over so well that the band took off from there. In 1980, Graham Green was brought into the band. As Ed says, the equal opportunity system caused them to import a Yankee from Pennsylvania. Needless to say, Graham proved that Yankees play polkas too and has been a wonderful addition to the band.
