Remembering Helen Fusig Hegwood

Helen Hegwood went to be with her husband, King B. Hegwood on August 24th. Her daughter wrote one of the best “last moments” I have read. “Mother went to be with Dad on a beautiful Monday evening. She had no pain. Her breaths were lighter and lighter until she had left us for Dad and bluer skies. She was 88 years young.” She is survived by many loving descendants.

Helen was born in Houston and met her husband at a polka dance in Crosby. She was blessed with an incredible voice, willingly singing with three choir groups. Helen also sang for the Houston Astros at the Astrodome. For over twenty years she opened the Czech Fest at the Fort Bend fairgrounds by singing the Czech National Anthem and the Star-Spangled Banner. She sang at countless wedding and funerals.
