Pavlas Party One of Many to Come in Moulton
Peruse the beautifully framed collection of historic photos on display at Moulton’s Pavlas Tavern, and you’re likely to find something that will catch your eye. For me, it was one of a massive group all gathered around the distinctive hardwood bar that still stands prominent in the place, every person with a glass held high overhead in celebration.
It’s a photo that owner Willie Pavlas told me not so long ago was snapped the day that Prohibition ended in the United States, in December 1933 with passage of the Constitution’s 21st Amendment, ending a more than decade-long temperance movement across the country. You’d be hard-pressed to find an unhappy face in the entire lot pictured there that night.
Not that you could’ve seen that picture on Sat., Jan. 11.
