Larry Olejnik, Temple Trumpet Troubador

Temple, Texas is not a well known town. The city was founded in the 1800s as a railroad town and then grew into a busy suburb within a few years. The town is also home to Larry Olejnik (trumpet player for the Vrazel Polka Band from the late 1950s to the early 1960s).

Larry lives a quiet retired life in Houston with his wife, but decades ago, he was a young musician on the go. Larry recalled his first experience with music and he wasn't exactly a child prodigy.

"I really didn't come from a musical family," Larry says. "I learned to play trumpet in junior high then joined the Temple High School Band. I tried accordion, but that was not for me!"
