DJ Profile: Roy Haag

For years, Roy Haag has been active in polka radio and has played in many polka bands such as the Hi-Toppers Orchestra and Bohemian Dutchmen. Roy currently hosts a German and Czech music show over the internet. I had the chance to interview Roy at a Texas Polka Music Museum fundraiser in Seaton. Roy is on the museum's board.

TPN: How did you get started in polka deejaying?

RH: When Lee Roy Matocha passed away, he had seven different radio stations in Texas where he hosted polka shows. I was asked to take over Lee Roy's show at the Gonzales station. I decided to take the position because it would give me a chance to play all kinds of polka recordings to other people. A few years later, I made the move to internet radio and my son-in-law, Donnie Howard, and I built the studio in my home in New Braunfels where I broadcast. Donnie also is a host on the program. From there, it just grew and grew.
