Editor's Log Jingle Bell Polka?

Letter to Santa: "Please send Nicky Gilbert a brand new leg so he and Diane won't have to hop at all the Christmas Dances." This was written to the Silsbee Bee (newspaper) in 1960 by a Beth Singletary. In another letter, Jola hopes Santa would bring her one new dress to wear to the Ludus [drama] Club dance. The only dance listed in the Silsbee paper was a honky-tonk (Yvonne's) on the Beaumont highway. One can only surmise that in high school you had heavily chaperoned dances, but few community dances for adults in this religious region.

From the Houston Post December 1909: "Another of the merry Christmas dances took place last evening at Bryan Hall, when Mr. & Mrs. L.R. Bryan entertained for Misses Mary and Cora Bryan, about 100 of the younger set enjoying this very delightful hospitality. A program of twenty dances was enjoyed to the accompaniment of irresistible music from the orchestra on the stage, and during an intermission a dainty supper was served in the balcony on prettily appointed tables.
