DJ Profile: Darrel Appelt

Music artist Darrel Appelt hosts a country music show on KULM FM in Columbus. I had the chance to find out more about Darrel's life and DJ duties.

TPN: How did you get your start in radio?

DA: When I was 16, I had started playing drums in a cover band; so music is the main reason I became interested in radio broadcasting. Then I started working a few radio shifts in Columbus while I was attending college. Finally in 1985, I was asked to manage the operations at KULM.

TPN: What is your favorite part about being a DJ?

DA: Just knowing that my morning show has a huge following and wonderful folks who still start their day with hometown radio and appreciate the services we provide for our local communities. I also get to help business owners with their advertising and that’s also a very satisfying part of the job.

TPN: Do you have a fond memory from your DJ days?

DA: That would have to be a trip we took to Nashville many years ago during CMA week when I got to interview and visit with many country music legends and stars.

TPN: What do you like to do in your free time?

DA: Free time? What's that? My music career is still rolling so that takes up most of my free time doing live acoustic shows and also promoting my original album as a Texas songwriter/performer. My other free-time activities that I enjoy include fitness training, woodworking, and hunting. I also enjoy spending time with my family.

Darrel Appelt's country show can be heard on 98.3 KULM FM in Columbus from Monday-Friday 6-10 am. You can also listen online at kulmradio.com.
