Bohemian Princess Diary

I just saw The Mule, starring Clint Eastwood and Mollie B. Well, Mollie doesn't exactly have top billing with Clint, but she does to polka fans.

When Clint (an admitted Mollie B Polka Party TV show fan) reached out to Mollie for SqueezeBox to be in a scene of the movie, Mollie texted her diehard fans to apply to be dancers in the scene. It only took a few minutes to complete the casting for the dance. I'm proud to say the majority of those folks dancing at a VFW Hall in Atlanta, Georgia were Texans.

The filming took place six months ago. Most would consider it a long eight-hour day, but that's nothing to polka dancers who dance all day long and into the night at festivals and at Mollie B TV show tapings. Clint, who is 88, kept up with them all. You can see him dancing with Betty Nemec from Belton and with Mollie. You will recognize a lot of other faces as well, like Pat and Louis Vrazel of Danbury, and Ross and Valina of Das Ist Lustig.

Valina arranged for us all to meet at a theater in Stafford to see the movie. They talked about what a great experience it was to meet a Hollywood legend, support Mollie and Ted Lange, and get the chance to dance and promote the music they love - polka!

They were asked to wear what they usually wear to a polka dance and bring two additional outfits. They danced to the same song over and over, but that didn't matter cuz THEY WERE IN A MOVIE!

The dance scene lasts about two minutes in the movie. That's enough time to see familiar faces, and hear some great singing by Mollie and Ted. Dana Linbladt and Joe Poper of SqueezeBox also get some nice face time.

I look forward to printing more about this movie experience in an upcoming issue as we hear comments from our Texas group and see the famous group photo.

Happy New Year, y'all. Till next month, Polka On!
