Střibřnanka Tours Texas

Stribrnanka, a brass band from South Moravia (Europe), made a swing through Texas performing in Hallettsville, Seaton, and Ennis. Their wide repertoire of Moravian and Czech folk music along with their own compositions illustrated both the differences and similarities of music from the old country and the Texas versions. The energetic, choir-like, singing showed the camaraderie of the group as they belted out both familiar and new songs to the audience as solos and duets backed by their brass and reeded instruments. A good time was had by all.

Dispatch from the National Polka Festival

The National Polka Festival (NPF) has wrapped up its fifty-sixth celebration of the Czech Culture of Ennis and Texas. In the mid-60s, Raymond Zapletal, Len Gehrig, and Joe Liska of Ennis made a tour of Czech music festivals in other states and the enthusiasm for such events inspired the men that Texas needed one. The Ennis Chamber of Commerce agreed and they partnered with the local Czech fraternal organizations (SPJST, KJT, and SOKOL).
