First Thursday Dancing in Floresville

Floresville, Texas, 30 miles southeast of San Antonio, was founded around the ranch headquarters of Canary Island immigrant Don Francisco Flores de Abrego. This area was once one of the northern hubs of the immense late 1700s and 1800s South Texas ranching world. While ranching is still prominent in the area, agriculture and oil now drive the economy.

When attending the Floresville Opry, the influence of the cattle industry is quite evident as the event is held in the Wilson County Show Barn. Nope, the Opry’s floor is not dirt and polka-dotted with cow patties. In front there is a very large air-conditioned banquet hall with a large stage and kitchen. The dance floor is great with room for a hundred dancers (more on slow songs, ahem..).
