Po.L.K.A. of Texas

Wow! November already. Where, oh where, did the year go?

Well, we sure have had a lot of rain, either feast or famine. Unfortunately, we canceled the parade for Hallettsville the Kolache Festival and I did not make it either for the kolache eating contest! Exciting news….The Polka Lovers Club of Texas Museum has been nominated for the “Best of Fayette County” in the Museum Category! How exciting is that. Our members and the board of the museum have put so much time, dedication, and love into that museum to preserve the rich history of our culture. Voting can be done at fayettecountyrecord.com and all votes should be cast on or before Oct. 28, 2018. Just imagine the great recognition and honor it would be if that were the case! If you have not ever been to the museum in La Grange, I encourage you to come by for a visit, you will be in for a treat.

Anyone who knows me knows I am a huge advocate for our veterans! On behalf of the Po.L.K. of A., and myself, a huge “THANK YOU” for your service to our country. We know that each of you have sacrificed so much for our freedom and the privileges that we have today. For those that have paid the ultimate price, may they Rest in Peace. Thank you so much for your service and dedication. Take the time to thank a veteran!

Our next event is the 13th Annual Memorial Celebration on Sat., Nov. 17 at Pavilion Hall in La Grange. See schedule in the ad below, and plan to join us for this very special tribute to those friends in polka who have passed on.

We are still making plans for our fundraiser and celebration of the Klub’s 30 years! We have come a long way from where the Klub started and continue to go even farther. We are NOT going anywhere and still have much to do. Before you know it, we will be planning the 50th anniversary!

We still have parades coming up and I will get ready for future kolache-eating contests. "As I need more rolls,” but it is so much fun. We look forward to seeing you somewhere on the beaten path.

On behalf of the Klub and myself we would like to wish everyone a Blessed and Safe Thanksgiving.

If you are ever out and about and are wondering what we are all about don’t be scared come and join us. We would love to have you.

And as always, we look forward to seeing you down the road, on the dance floor, or just having a great time at so many happenings around the area.

Take time to thank our military, police, EMS, and firefighters who put their lives on the line every day for us. On behalf of the Po.L.K. of A. “THANK YOU” for your service.

The Po.L.K. of A. is quite a busy klub, and if you are wondering what we are all about, please come check us out. Everyone is welcome; and if you would like to become a member, you can contact Betty Tidwell/Membership Secretary at bjtidwell@sbcglobal.net, and she will more than happy to send you an application, or if you see anyone in red and white just ask them about becoming a member.

See you on the dance floor or on the float at a parade.
