Cajun Symphony

CHRIS RYBAK

"A little sauteed, boiled and deep fried." No, those aren't cooking instructions, those are the lyrics from one of the songs on Chris Rybak's latest CD, Cajun Baby. This album is filled with many riveting traditional and novelty Cajun tunes.

Chris also does a fantastic job singing and playing accordion on all of the songs. One of those songs in particular is Jole Blon. Chris's singing and Cajun-style accordion playing added with Bonnie Riley's fiddling talents makes this song a perfect Cajun symphony.

One of my favorite novelty tunes on this recording is Diggy Liggy Lo. This song is full of Cajun spice and energy. I could also tell Chris was having a fun time while singing it, which made the song even more enjoyable.

Another song on this CD that grabbed my attention was Chris's version of Alabama's, If You're Gonna Play In Texas. Chris performs this song as an instrumental and plays it in sort of a Zydeco style. By doing this, Chris demonstrates his pure raw talent.

I really like the two-part harmonic vocals that were sung on Adalida. The vocals went together better than coffee and donuts.

This CD even includes an original song written by Chris Rybak and Daniel Kluch. It's called Going to Hallettsville. This song can be summed up in just one word, "fun!" This tune is simply all about having fun while in Hallettsville. The lyrics of this song mention fiddling all night, enjoying pivo, and just having a good time. I find it very wonderful that Chris is so proud of his hometown that he would record an admirable song about it. Plus, I really enjoyed that country line dance beat.

This recording is perfect for any fan of Cajun music and you can even dine on crawfish and gumbo while listening to it.
